The problem

Data loss rarely announces itself

A failed disk, a mistyped rm -rf, a broken upgrade, a ransomware infection or a cloud account suspended overnight. Most teams only discover that their backups are incomplete, outdated or impossible to restore at the exact moment they need them.

  • Backups on the same server

Copies stored on the machine they protect disappear together with it.

  • Scripts nobody monitors

A cron job that silently stopped months ago looks exactly like one that works.

  • Inconsistent database dumps

Copying database files while the server writes to them produces backups that may not restore.

  • No offsite copy

A single location means a single fire, flood, theft or provider incident can take everything.

The consequence

What happens when backups fail

The cost of losing data is not only the data itself. It is the time to rebuild, the customers who cannot work, the orders that were never recorded and the trust that is hard to win back.

  • Downtime

Every hour spent reinstalling servers and reconstructing data is an hour your service is unavailable.

  • Permanent loss

Invoices, customer records, code and configuration that existed in a single place may never come back.

  • Ransom pressure

Without a clean, isolated copy, paying attackers can look like the only option.

  • Compliance exposure

Many contracts and regulations expect you to protect and recover personal and business data.

The solution

One platform for the systems you actually run

Backnix is a cloud backup platform designed for infrastructure teams: Linux servers, relational databases, Docker hosts and Proxmox environments. Each capability below shows its real availability status, so you always know what is ready, in beta or still on the roadmap.

How backup works with Backnix

The backup flow is designed to be simple to operate and safe by default.

  1. Install the agent

A lightweight Backnix agent runs on your server and connects outbound to the platform.

  2. Choose what to protect

Select directories, databases, Docker volumes or Proxmox backups and set a schedule.

  3. Encrypt before upload

Data is compressed and encrypted on your server before it leaves your network.

  4. Store and verify

Encrypted backups are stored in S3 cloud storage in the region you choose and checked for integrity.

  5. Restore when needed

Recover individual files, databases or complete systems from the backup history.

Backup flow

From your server to verified cloud storage

Server backup flow: a server runs the Backnix agent, data is encrypted, sent to cloud storage, verified, and can be restored.
Server backup flow: Server → Backnix Agent → Encryption → Cloud Storage → Verification → Restore.

Diagrams show the designed architecture. Each capability's availability is shown on its page.

Benefits

Why teams choose a dedicated backup platform

  • Automated scheduling

Backups run on schedule, without relying on someone to remember.

  • Incremental backups

After the first full backup, only changes are transferred to save bandwidth and storage.

  • Monitoring and history

See when each backup ran, how long it took and whether it succeeded.

  • Your choice of region

Keep data in the country or region your business and your customers require.

  • Built for restores

Backups are only useful if they restore. Verification and restore tests are part of the design.

  • Transparent pricing

Pay for storage capacity. Prices and renewal terms are shown before you contract.

Security

Security and encryption by design

Backups contain your most sensitive data, so they must be at least as protected as the systems they come from. Backnix is designed around client-side encryption: data is encrypted on your server, travels over TLS and is stored encrypted at rest.

How we protect backups

  • Client-side encryptionData is encrypted before upload with keys that stay under your control.
  • Encrypted transportAll communication with the platform and storage uses TLS.
  • Least-privilege accessEach agent receives only the permissions it needs, and administrative access uses multi-factor authentication.
Storage regions

Store copies in more than one region

A single customer can keep backups in different storage regions, for example one copy in the United States and another in Europe, when this option is contracted. A second region becomes real redundancy only when replication is configured and running, and Backnix shows that status explicitly instead of assuming it.

Multi-region flow: a customer sends backups through Backnix to storage region A and storage region B.
Multi-region storage: Customer → Backnix → Storage Region A + Storage Region B (only when this option is contracted and configured).
Proxmox

Made for Proxmox environments

Proxmox VE and Proxmox Backup Server are excellent tools, but a backup server in the same rack as your hypervisors is not an offsite copy. Backnix is designed to complement your Proxmox setup with offsite storage, retention and recovery planning.

  • Proxmox VE

Back up virtual machines and containers created with vzdump.

  • Proxmox Backup Server

Keep an offsite copy of your PBS datastore for disaster recovery.

  • Recovery on other nodes

Plan restores to a different node or cluster when the original hardware is gone.

Proxmox backup

Proxmox backup flow: Proxmox VE sends backups to Proxmox Backup Server, which keeps an offsite copy used for recovery.
Proxmox backup flow: Proxmox VE → Proxmox Backup Server → Offsite Storage → Recovery.

Frequently asked questions

What can Backnix back up?
Backnix is designed for Linux servers, MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL databases, Docker volumes and Proxmox environments. Each feature shows its current status: available, beta or coming soon.
Where is my data stored?
In S3-compatible object storage, in the region you choose from the regions available for your plan.
Is my data encrypted?
Backnix is designed to encrypt data on your server before upload, and all transfers use TLS.
How is the yearly discount applied?
The first annual payment has 50% off twelve monthly payments. Renewals are charged at the full yearly price and the promotion is not reapplied automatically.
Can I keep copies in two regions?
Yes, when you contract multi-region storage. The second copy only counts as redundancy after replication is configured and confirmed.
